UPDATE:
 
Effective Monday, August  17th, 2009, there will be charges for yard waste and dry waste drop off at the Smyrna Recycling Center. These charges were necessary to cover hauling and disposal costs. The charges will be as follows: Less than ½ pickup truck load, free; ½ pickup load (not to exceed depth of truck bed), $5; full pickup, $10, trailer, $20. Cash and checks will be accepted. This service will still be for Smyrna residents only.

Utilities

The Utility Services Office of the City of Smyrna generate Water and Sewer and Sanitation billing. The office is located on the first floor in the City Hall building at 2800 King Street, Smyrna, GA.

Hours of operation: Monday through Friday (except on official City Holidays)
Drive-thru window: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Inside Office: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sanitation

Important Sanitation and Scheduling Information

Please review all information related to the Sanitation Schedule (pdf)This listing includes the letter mailed to customers revealing important information regarding the sanitation service(s) and the Sanitation Holiday Schedule as well as the Sanitation Schedule. Additionally, you will need to check your monthly water bill for other important messages regarding service.


Residential Sanitation

The City’s Residential Sanitation Division is responsible for performing an essential service to the citizens of Smyrna, the removal of garbage and refuse. The services provided are residential garbage removal, recycling and yard waste removal.

Leaves, grass clippings and small yard waste (small sticks, brush) must be placed in paper yard bags. The use of plastic bags for yard waste is now prohibited.

Small trash items will be picked up the same day as your roll out container or the second pick up day of your underground unit. Large trash items, i.e. furniture, appliances, mattresses, etc. need a work order request made by the resident. The City will continue to impose a $20.00 fee for each item.

Recycling is provided by the City of Smyrna.  The telephone number is 770-431-2850. The sanitation department delivers recycling bins to Smyrna residents. If a resident does not have a bin, they may call Sanitation at 770-431-2850 to obtain one. Bins are usually delivered automatically to new homes, and resales should already have them, but sometimes they get misplaced. Residents that do not have a bin may call Sanitation at 770-431-2850 to obtain one. 

New customers for the City’s sanitation service as well as the recycling program may apply for service at the City of Smyrna Utility Services Office located inside Smyrna City Hall, 2800 King Street. 678-631-5438. 
  


Recycling

  • Curbside Recycling. Please leave glass out of curbside recycling program and take it to the Smyrna Recycling Center.  For more information, call 770-431-2863.

    The City of Smyrna curbside recycling program will no longer be able to take glass in its curbside collection program for recycling. The processor for the City’s curbside provider informed City staff recently that they do not have a market for the glass.

    Anyone can still take glass jars and bottles to the Smyrna Recycling Center at 645 Smyrna Hill Drive. The glass accepted there is color-separated and is all recycled.  For more information, please contact Keep Smyrna Beautiful at 770-431-2863.  The Recycling Center is open Tues., Wed., Fri. and Sat.,  8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Thurs., 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.; closed Sun. and Mon.

Yard waste? Brown bag it!

Leaves, grass clippings and yard waste (small sticks, brush) must be place in paper bags. Paper bags can be purchased at hardware stores, home improvement warehouses, grocery stores and from the City of Smyrna Public Works facility, Utility Services in City Hall, Community Center and Recycling Center.

The use of plastic bags for this material is prohibited. Check you sanitation schedule for assigned days.
